Olivia Van Gerwen, MD, MPH

Dr. Olivia Van Gerwen completed her internal medicine residency and chief residency in New Orleans, LA in 2018. She then returned to her hometown of Birmingham to pursue a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), which she completed in 2020. She is now a Clinical Instructor in the UAB Division of Infectious Diseases as well as a post-doctoral fellow in health services, outcomes, and effectiveness research. Dr. Van Gerwen’s research focuses on STI prevention and sexual health promotion among transgender populations, particularly how to create patient-center care models which optimize both sexual and mental health outcomes.
